BHSM Kick off - Be Inspired! Held on May 23, 2023Join us as we kickoff BHSM in Wisconsin. While no group or profession is immune to mental health challenges, caregivers face disproportionate stress and burnout. Our first webinar will set the stage for this valuable webinar series that’s sure to inspire and invigorate you during BHSM and beyond. (A link to the recording is available upon registration). Supervision: Mentoring the Next Generation Held on May 30, 2023 This course will review the ASHA updated (2020) supervision requirements and provide participants with an opportunity to explore commonly occurring ethical scenarios. The roles of the mentor and mentee will be discussed in terms of expectations, building relationships, and coaching. Participants will reflect upon their own teaching and learning styles and how to best support young professionals with considerations for generational differences. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in Communication Sciences and Disorders May 31, 2023 6:00 – 8:00 pmDuring this session, we’ll engage in active discussions surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion within the scope of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CS&D). Participants will learn more about bilingualism and linguistic diversity, unconscious bias, collaboration with interpreters, and ableism. Presenters will include members of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Communication Sciences & Disorders Department DEI Committee. How Does ASHA’s revised Code of Ethics (2023) Affect Your Practice? June 1, 2023 11:30 am – 1:30 pm This presentation will set forth the changes made to the Code, and how they impact SLPs and AUDs working in schools, private practice, universities and hospitals. Additionally, we will discuss how to address common ethical issues, such as client abandonment, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, documentation and failure to practice with reasonable skill and safety, and review case studies that highlight common ethical dilemmas.
