Please make plans to join us for the 2023 WSHA Fall Schools Conference! Our featured topic "Morphosyntactic Development from a Language and Literacy Perspective" will be presented by Patty Becker, PhD, CCC-SLP. Children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) commonly present with morphosyntactic deficits in English and other languages. These deficits place them at an increased risk for reading and writing disabilities. Speech-language pathologists with explicit knowledge of morphological and syntactic development, assessment, and intervention can improve children’s oral and written language skills. During this event, participants will examine the morphosyntactic development of children with DLD from a language and literacy perspective. The presenter will share research and resources that address oral and written language relationships, morphosyntactic norms, goals, and markers of DLD, formal and informal assessments, and evidence-based interventions. Prior to the event, participants will select and read an article of interest from the Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools (LSHSS) April 2020 forum on morphosyntax assessment and intervention for children. They will use their selected reading(s) to engage in small group, research-to-practice conversations during the session. Throughout the session, participants will explore intervention materials, children’s books, games, websites, and other resources for promoting morphosyntactic skills. They will have the opportunity to network and create a morphosyntactic “make-and-take.”
