Student Voice: Hear what the university students had to say about their experience at the 2010 WSHA Convention in Oshkosh!
-We hope to see you next year!!!

It was the first convention that I've been to that wasn't only for Audiologists/Audiology students. I enjoyed the interaction between SLPs and Auds, as well as learning more about the related profession.
-Maria Carrier

I enjoyed having a variety of sessions to choose from each day of the convention
-Michelle DeBot

I enjoyed learning about current perspectives regarding tinnitus and its treatment, which was presented by Audiologists from the Medical College of WI.  I felt that I learned a lot about tinnitus in that one session, some review, but also some new theories which I did not know previously.  During the poster presentation, I met a few Audiologists who use VEMPs (part of my research) in their clinics as well as those who were less familiar with the test.  It was wonderful to talk with everyone on such a professional level about the current practices and procedures.
-Angela E. Katzfey

I had a lot of fun at this year's conference!  I really enjoyed the opportunity to speak with students and other professionals in the field about the projects they are working on.  The poster sessions were informative and more interactive than just reading an article.
-Rachel Stuckey

I was able to sit in on some sessions at the round table discussions and I enjoyed listening to speakers and able to ask questions throughout the session.
-Jacqueline Wartgow

I liked hearing about the challenges some SLPs were facing in their particular workplaces.  As a student it's good to hear these things because it puts our studies in perspective; interpersonal skills will play a bigger role once we're out in the field.
-Deborah Kanning

My WSHA experience taught me the value of continuing education throughout a lifetime as our evidence based profession continually discovers new information. As a student, it is wonderful to see that even as a professional I will have the opportunity to continue my quest for knowledge because of conferences like WSHA.
-Andrew Bordeaux

In the University setting, I tend to receive input from individuals working in pediatrics, most often in schools. It was great to speak with professionals in different specialty areas, to hear their personal experiences and their advice to an undergraduate such as myself.
-Elizabeth Pettitt

I was surprised to see so many familiar faces!  I worked at the registration table, thus I saw many SLPs check in.  Following the convention, I attended a training and saw a couple of the same faces.  It's a small world...
I enjoyed putting faces to names of articles I had read or accomplished SLPs that I have heard of/read about.
I enjoyed gaining insight from practicing professionals.  Their perspective was very enlightening as I am looking to begin my career in a few short months!

-Tessa Heckel
